Actions are preprogrammed but he chooses when to perform one of the given actions. He's using so called active learning to do so. The speech was added later to make the video more understandable.

Isn't this a fully programmed task ?? I mean the speaking and the movements such as walking or grabbing objects seem to be. But, does he do what he wants or is it also programed ?

The project has finished at the end of Sep. Since April, we have come up with a new learning algorithm and a new demo - learning about a simple pendulum. To my knowledge, Aldebaran has already started on public releases. They distributed beta versions to some public users. They don't come completely blank - they can walk for example and do some other simple things. But they can't learn in any way, neither by experimenting nor interacting with humans.

How far has development come now? I'm interested in buying a NAO when they go on release to the Public. Do you think they will eventually come with a Learning Algorithm? Or will they come completely blank for us to program? I prefer the idea of a self learning Algorithm to allow the robot to Learn itself or by interaction.

No, Nao has no learning algorithm by default. The learning algorithm is our work and yes nao learned it autonomously.

Can the Nao do this without any modifications? Did it learn to do all this on its own?

A proposal for the future project is in another direction. We want our research to focus on higher levels of abstraction rather than going (too) deep into one specific direction.Software that comes with the robot consists of an API and a rather poor simulator.

Is it a future project to use the gyros for balance? Or is this far to complicated at present...I presume writing the software would be a huge task..?Is software supplied with the robot ?Sounds like a great project!! |
